Shiftwork can involve evening and night shifts, early morning shifts and rotating shifts. Many industries rely on shift schedules, but what’s it doing to your health? According to Michelle Bridges, “working shifts can be nightmarish for exercisers” and “it’s hard to live a healthy lifestyle when you’re packing in the big hours and faced with crappy food choices”. A report by the University of Queensland examined 17 studies focusing on the impact of shift work. What they found was that those who work shiftwork drink more coffee, snack more, exercise less and smoke more cigarettes - all of which can have a negative impact on your health.
